Our cusotmer is a subsidiary of one of the World’s largest institutional alternative asset managers. Their Asian investment team in Hong Kong office provides asset management services and global investment opportunities to the investors. Their clients include many of the largest and most sophisticated investors in globe.
Challenges
Our customer needs to handle so many huge amount of transactions to proceed every minute. In order to fulfill the demand of their clients, our customer operates 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. Therefore, their IT staffs cannot obtain any downtime for system maintenances. The existing backup system has become an issue in this case. Our customer wanted a solution that can fully backup all the data without affecting system performances.
The Solution
Electronic Business Solutions Limited (EBS) understood their urgent need on setting up the new backup system to store the massive transaction data. Hence, we sped up the preparation and proposed Quantum VTL/NAS solution combined with Symantec Netbackup Backup software to the customer.
Quantum is an industry-leading deduplication systems provider. The model we selected for the customer is Quantum DXi 4702 NAS. Its patent variable-length deduplication not only reduced disk, but also enabled efficient data movement across the WAN to others sites. For Symantec Netbackup, it is a backup and recovery suite which offered the customer recovery from tape, disk or the cloud in physical or virtual environment.

Quantum DXi 4702 is powered by the world’s fastest file system, StorNext 5. The customer found that it provided faster data deduplication and access to data than before. Its patent and unique deduplication also maximized data reduction and saved network bandwidth when replicating.

Quantum offered the customer the most comprehensive and intuitive management tools in the industry to assist their business decision-making, configuration and speed up resolution time. In addition, the customer it can be easily expanded to over 135TB with no downtime.
High Level of Data Protection
Data security is one of the most pressing issues for our customer. Quantum’s encryption approach features with the most stringent international standard helped the staffs to secure all protected data being transmitted during replications or stored in the tape libraries.
